What is the best material for knitting socks?

Do you knit socks?
They are easy and can be knitted for about 100g.
Socks that can be knit with basic techniques are very popular among knitters.
Socks are so attractive that you find yourself knitting them, but what kind of material is best suited for them?
Today, we would like to talk about that.

Socks are different from other things... they are subject to a lot of friction.
Therefore, the best material for socks is a yarn that is resistant to friction.
The conditions for friction-resistant yarns are as follows.

(1) Highly twisted
(2) Nylon blended
(3) Shrink-proofed

"Twisting" in (1) means twisting yarns together.
Weak twisting results in a fluffy yarn, while strong twisting results in a firm yarn with a firm feel.
The fluffy feel is attractive and good for clothing, but it tends to form pilling.

(2) About nylon.
Nylon is more resistant to fraying than wool.
Blending nylon with wool is more durable than knitting wool alone.

And the processing in (3) prevents furballs from forming due to friction and also prevents the fabric from shrinking when washed.

I am occasionally asked the question, "Can I knit socks with yarns other than sock yarn?"
You can knit socks with any yarn, but they are not as resistant to friction as sock yarns.
If you want to knit with yarns other than sock yarn, you just need to choose the right time to wear them.
For example, they are perfect for relaxing before bedtime, knitting, or when you don't move your feet that much.
I hope you will enjoy knitting socks in your favorite material!
