Good evening everyone.
I just posted my new work "Museum" on Instagram.
This new work is dyed with things I have seen and remembered.
Today I would like to write about one of them, "Almond Blossom".
This painting can be seen at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Most of the museums I have seen in Europe are housed in old buildings, but the Van Gogh Museum is a new, modern building.
I am not an art expert, but I knew about Van Gogh before I visited the museum.
・Famous for his sunflowers.
・There is a painting that references Ukiyoe.
・He cut off his own ear.
When I entered the museum, I saw the sunflowers, but what I still remember was a brightly colored blue painting.
It was titled "Almond Blossom".
I remember that he used a lot of yellow and blue in his paintings, but I was drawn to the greenish blue, which was different from the blue he usually used.
I wonder if it is the color of the blue sky seen through his eyes, or what it is, but it is a beautiful blue.
When I was test-dyeing the yarn, I tried to add some brownish colors like tree branches, but I still wanted to bring this blue to the forefront, so I decided not to add any extra colors.
I hope you can feel the blue that I saw at that time.
Incidentally, there is another painting at the Van Gogh Museum that I remember intensely.
It is "The Potato Eaters".
It is a painting of people eating potatoes under a dimly lit lamp, looking somewhat dissatisfied.
I think it is partly due to the historical background, but the surrealism of the painting has strangely captured my heart and has not let go.
And I also remember a tourist in the museum store laughing at "EAR!!!!!!!!!" I also remember that they were laughing.
I wondered what it was and found a key chain in the shape of an ear.
It was an edgy black joke...but I didn't dislike it.
I bought an eyeglass case with a picture of a "Almond Blossom" printed on it, and I still use it to this day.
I will write about the museum again next time.
